Zombies and Dr. Shnozz

"Did you notice how hairy that man's nose was?"
"....You mean the man behind us?"
"Yeah. He had a very, very hairy nose."
"Like hair on his nose?"
"No, like in his nose."
"Really?"
"Yes, it bothered me."
"Hmmm."
"Sorry if that ruined your apetite."

My dad and I are very similar people. We shared many a thought about a certain situation. However, when we get bored and become silent anywhere outside of our house, we begin to observe things, and sometimes, we observe very closely. In this situation of hairy nose, we were standing in line at subway. I turned to look at the line behind us, and a bald gentleman, not my dad, was leaning over the counter and he had quite the tuft of hair protruding from his shnozz. He also had a BlueTooth headset in his ear and that made it funnier for me. I mentioned this to my father when we got in the car (see top of page). My dad also contributed to the conversation about the woman who helped us.

"Did you see how nice she was even though it was really crowded?"
"Yeah, she was really nice."
"However, did you see the look in her eyes, what she was really thinking?"
"No, I didn't."
"She was pretty stressed if you looked hard enough."

I looked back into Subway and realized that, yes, it was very crowded that day. I reflected on the girl he was talking about and she had indeed been very nice. I could however see that behind her fiery red hair their was a touch of panic. I contemplated this for a while and decided she deserved a medal for her amazing control of the situation and Dr. Shnozz. He was a ratty fellow and I counldn't help but dislike him. Also, Dr. Shnozz is a funny nickname. My dad looks for much more honorable things though, I just look for weird little things. Now that I think of it I imagine a thousand situations of a burning New York city while people are running around smashed cars while an attractive woman screams, "Oh no! It's DR. SHNOZZ!" Then a massive nose hair would crush the car next to her and she'd run away. I let my imagination get away from me just long enough for that to happen. It's like that a lot for me. Sometimes l wish I lived in a world like that, but then I realize that it wouldn't be cool anymore if I did. So, I just leave it to the books and the movies to haunt houses and fight aliens.

One of my favorite movie genres however, is that one rising in popularity, zombies. I've loved zombies ever since I was capable of imagining one person turning on another. Not just because zombies eat people, but because if left in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, people would eventually turn on other people just like a zombie. Zombies will get to you one way or another, so what's really interesting is how people are expected to cope with it. Some get in large groups and establish a headquarters while others stay in small groups and travel long distances. I think that zombies are one of the best horror phenomenons because they don't express any form of pain, remorse, or life. Vampires are easily killed or turned into a lovey-dovey, disgusting story. Werewolves aren't much different. Zombies don't scream when you poke them with sticks or run away when you shoot them with a silver bullet. They don't love, or care, or make horrible monster babies with humans, they just want to eat. They will moan, groan, and chase you even after they're puking up guts and dragging themselves with their hands. They also have the power in numbers that many monsters need. You can kill a thousand of them in a row, but if you're still alive, more will come. If you decide to stay alone eventually you'll lose your mind and probably just kill yourself. If you stay with others you'll be loud and eventually your humanity will end up being your demise when you try to save your half eaten step sister from the zombies that are hunkered down for a snack. If your humanity doesn't kill you then, it will kill you when your half eaten step sister stands up again and doesn't look at you like a person anymore. What makes them scarier than anything for me, is that they don't seem that different from regular humans in the first place. We kill each other all the time but it's not until we see ourselves as limping, bloody, monsters that we get scared of ourselves. Humans will either try to make everyone see it their way or eliminate them. Zombies just show what would happen if we were capable of doing both. They kill all who oppose, and then they have a new ally. I'm scared of that more than anything. The day that people can kill their enemy and earn a friend. I've heard that Hitler went into that kind of thing during his time as evil dictator. Luckily, zombie science isn't anywhere in the near future. However, if it were, I think the world might take a turn for the better. People would realize that there are better battles to fight, and greater victories to be had. Zombies are a good lesson for people who take the time to realize they're not that different after all.
